Self-Care Advice for Realtors

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 15 September 2020 16:50

As a real estate agent, you might always be on the go. It might be your goal to help people sell their homes so that they can move to the next phase in their lives, and it might also be your goal to help people find homes that they will love. There's certainly nothing wrong with helping others in this way as a part of your day-to-day job, but it's important to take care of yourself, too. It can sometimes be difficult to focus on self-care when you're involved in the real estate industry, but you can start by following these tips.

Eat a Healthy Diet

When you're always on the road going to showings and meeting with clients, it's easy to grab fast food or sodas while you're on the go. However, it's important to eat a healthy diet, so try to pack a healthy lunch and a few healthy snacks to enjoy while you're working. If you're having trouble keeping your calories in check, consider intermittent fasting.

Get in Enough Exercise

You might spend a lot of time either at your desk or in your car when you're a real estate agent, which can lead to you not getting in enough physical activity throughout the average workweek. Consider taking a break in-between showings to take a brisk yet relaxing walk at the park, or hit the gym before or after work to start your day off right or blow off some steam. Also, remember that following little tricks throughout the day, such as by taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking around your office while you're on the phone with a client, can make a surprising difference.

Focus on Personal Safety

In some cases, you might find yourself in relatively dangerous situations as a realtor. It is important to focus on personal safety; don't meet with someone alone for a showing if you don't feel comfortable doing so, for example, and let a family member or friend know about where you will be when you're working alone. Also, make sure that you keep your cell phone close at hand in case you need to call for help, and consider learning a few self-defense moves, just in case you need them.

Learn When to Disconnect

Nowadays, it's important to stay connected if you want to be a successful realtor. You might get texts and calls from clients at random times, or you might want to update your social media pages so that you can continue generating interest in your realtor services or in the properties that you are actively trying to sell. However, it is important to learn how to disconnect from your phone, tablet, and computer at night. Give yourself some time to relax and unwind before bed, and you'll probably find that you're more relaxed and able to sleep better.

As a realtor, it can sometimes be difficult to focus on yourself and your needs. However, by starting with the list above, you can focus on much-needed self-care.
